October 7 French school protests

Oct 7

RTVE describes continuing French student unrest and fewer high-school blockades that Wednesday. Mavi Doñate reports Lecornu's national address acknowledging that youth anger has causes, calling for listening and promising solutions by month's end. He says police have no instruction to confront students but accuses political inciters of responsibility for violence. Eighteen internal police-force inquiries are reported. Another strike and demonstrations with teacher unions are planned for Thursday; they are not completed actions.

High-school protests over staffing, funding and facilities continue across France on October 7. DD India reports a cumulative participation figure above 450,000, most schools reopening but more than 500 still partly closed, support from parents and teachers, and future Thursday action. Its unidentified critic's first-week arrest/injury allegations and separately reported Tuesday figures are retained with their different periods; the movement is unresolved. TSN's same-day update separately attributes full or partial class suspension at 528 high schools on Wednesday to the Education Ministry. This more specific measure is retained alongside DD's more-than-500 partly closed count without manufacturing a common tally. France 2's same-day on-scene roundup shows schools reopening in Clermont, Antibes and Niort and dialogue in Rodez. It reports nine in ten lycées operating normally and action at 232 establishments, measures not silently substituted for the other broadcasters' closure/class-suspension figures. A Marseille pupil alleges a baton blow after a road blockade and the report says the IGPN has been asked to investigate. Dauphine and Sciences Po blockades, resource demands and preparation for Thursday action are reported; future decisions are still pending. IRINN's October 7 Paris package reports Sciences Po joining the movement and includes unidentified witnesses' allegations of beatings, grenades, gas, pursuits and assaults on media. It gives 6,500 arrests, with a headline adding 215 injured; the cumulative periods are unspecified and remain distinct from the other sources' first-week, Tuesday and school-closure measures. The broadcaster's criticism of rights organizations and admissions is attributed. RTVE's October 7 Paris report describes fewer school blockades that Wednesday and continued unrest, with further teacher-supported action planned for Thursday. It reports eighteen internal police inquiries. Lecornu's national address is a separately bounded response: promises are not completed solutions, and no closure or arrest count is invented to reconcile the broadcasters' different measures.
