Flydubai cockpit incident TSN recounts rescue
Flydubai 1073 cockpit altercation and Saudi diversion
Sep 30
TSN recounts a cockpit attack on a flydubai Boeing flying to Tel Aviv, naming Abu Dhabi as its origin. Its preview calls the account preliminary. The main item gives 174 passengers, normal flight for two and a half hours, altitude of 7,000 metres, and a 4,000-metre fall in under thirty seconds. It says an Omani co-pilot repeatedly stabbed an Emirati captain and seized the controls, suggesting terrorism or suicide as possible motives. Crew and passengers reportedly subdued him; a hijacking alert led Israel to scramble fighters and Netanyahu to convene security consultations. A reserve crew on board reportedly stabilized the plane and landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. The passengers are said to be unharmed, the captain hospitalized in serious condition and the attacker detained. The recap refers to about 200 people and says investigators are determining the motive. These are TSN's accounts, including its origin and numerical differences; they are not substituted for the other broadcaster's Dubai origin or caution about unconfirmed investigative findings.
Flydubai Flight 1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv descends sharply and transmits emergency signals on September 30. The airline confirms a cockpit altercation. Passengers report subduing an attacker believed to be a pilot; additional crew land in Saudi Arabia. Netanyahu alleges a stabbing and apparent crash attempt, and Katz calls it an attempted jihadist attack. Motive remains unestablished. Returning passengers describe terror and relief. Tagesthemen's Pia Steckelbach says the Saudi inquiry, identity, motive and possible lapses remain uncertain or speculative; Flydubai suspends Israel flights. ABC's September 30 airport report gives 174 passengers, including four Americans, and airs cockpit footage and witnesses. It attributes a first-officer attack on the captain and nosedive to authorities, reports passengers and an additional pilot recovering control, Saudi treatment, onward arrival and detention, and retains Trump's terrorist-or-other-motive speculation. Tagesschau rounds the count to about 180. TV Brasil gives roughly 150 Israeli passengers, a descent over 4,000 metres in thirty seconds attributed to Flightradar24, two injured men, hospital care and a reported pilot arrest. Its government terrorism label remains attributed; the Israeli-passenger figure is not a total count. France 2's September 30 eyewitness account gives a 10,360-to-4,190-metre descent in six minutes, tail-damage images and two off-duty pilots taking control. Cockpit entry is unexplained and nationality comes from Israeli press. Its separate simulator/security report discusses doors, codes, cameras and differing screening, leaving an emergency-axe hypothesis unconfirmed. RTVE gives over five kilometres in under two minutes and Netanyahu's count of 166 Israelis, returning-passenger and mother/daughter testimony, a detained pilot and an open inquiry. These source-specific counts, descent and crew formulations are not reconciled into one verified reconstruction. TSN's September 30 account names Abu Dhabi rather than Dubai as origin, gives 174 passengers in the main item and about 200 people in its recap, and claims an Omani co-pilot stabbed an Emirati captain. It gives a 4,000-metre fall from 7,000 metres in under thirty seconds, crew/passenger intervention, a reserve crew landing in Tabuk, a seriously injured captain and a detained attacker. Its preview is preliminary, main item suggests terrorism or suicide, and recap says motive is being investigated. Vremya's same-day package airs passenger intervention, descent and diversion; it says an initial Russian–Ukrainian cockpit-fight rumour gave way to an Omani-attacker account, then attributes an unofficial Russian/Ukrainian off-duty rescue-pilot account to Israel Hayom. Identities and reserve-crew/trainee roles remain qualified; motive theories and the Germanwings analogy are context. IRINN's September 30 report gives around 170 passengers, attributes Omani-versus-Emirati pilot identities and the Tabuk/onward journey to witnesses and Israeli outlets, then carries Hassan Olleik's claimed nationality agreement and pilots-posing-as-passengers allegation and Abu Ali al-Deirani's accusation of a Netanyahu charade. These central staging claims remain disputed interpretations. Its Netanyahu response and Lieberman/Lapid political-exploitation criticisms are retained, with the UAE visit described relatively as two days earlier rather than made a new dated visit. DD India's October 1 reports name Captain Smit Machchhar, give a 14,000-foot descent, opened cockpit door and crew/passenger intervention, and include neighbourhood/institutional praise. The headline attributes radicalization to Netanyahu; the main report keeps motive under inquiry. One package reports Abu Dhabi transfer but later Saudi hospital treatment. Its separate complete expert debate examines vetting, possible weapons/motives, recruitment and remote-control risks while awaiting findings; cockpit cameras are a proposal, not policy. ABC's October 1 follow-up airs new cabin video and dentist Shota Musaev's firsthand medical-intervention account, fear that death was seconds away and the subdued suspect's request to be killed. It reports an unlocked door, recovery by crew/passengers, 174 passengers and eight crew. Netanyahu's radicalization/suicide assertion, an unnamed Israeli official's unelaborated online-post allegation and Trump's qualified Iran suspicion do not establish motive. Fox's same-day passenger Daniel Schlichter/Netanyahu clips credit the captain with opening the door and report both captain and suspect moved to the UAE. Fox's White House account contrasts Trump's Iran belief with Netanyahu's caution and explicit uncertainty about direct involvement; Ailam's Iran-inspired lone-wolf interpretation remains his view. France 2's October 1 survivor account includes Yaniv Hayun pulling the attacker away and raising the aircraft, dentist/business-owner rescue praise and a 2025 Machchhar interview. It says the captain is out of danger. Netanyahu's motive assertions and Trump's Iran speculation remain attributed while the inquiry is beginning; the prior reception/security response is separately indexed. Kan's same-day reports add Ohayon's cabin recordings and four rescuers' direct accounts of entry, restraint, control recovery and aid. Cohen cites officials finding no organizational/Iranian link yet without excluding Iran. Blumental places the conscious captain after UAE transfer; Alkaly's later account places him in Saudi Arabia. The qualified Trump exchange and viral rescue reaction supply no established motive, Iranian role or completed honor award. ABC's October 2 report attributes a materially new security-history account to senior intelligence/law-enforcement officials: an unnamed Omani trainee was reportedly suspended from Oman Air flying in 2024 after possessing extremist materials, kept in an administrative role and later hired by Flydubai. Sources allege intended crashing in Israel and cooperation with investigators. These are not final findings. Machchhar tells Modi from hospital that, wounded and sensing the plunge, he made a final effort to open the door and credits everyone who entered equally. Netanyahu's radicalization assertion and threat to whoever sent the attacker remain allegations; Israeli officials say Israel will join the UAE inquiry. DD India's October 2 complete call repeats the captain's firsthand door-opening/equal-credit account, excellent care including Saudi treatment and spiritual reassurance, without fixing his current hospital or motive. Fox's October 2 report locates him in Abu Dhabi, carries his rescue account, reports the suspect's UAE transfer and attributes a prior Oman flying ban to familiar sources and crash-intent/radicalization to Netanyahu. Modi's call is a separate later occurrence. These later accounts do not erase earlier location, identity, descent, crew or motive differences. Vremya's October 1 report airs plumber Yaniv Hayon's account of removing an attacker and pulling the controls and Georgian dentist Shota Musaev's aid to the captain. Konstantin Yaroshenko disputes the amateur recovery account; Yemelyanov questions coincidences and earlier displaced rumours. It attributes to Fars/Iranian-security sources an Israeli plan to blame Iran for aviation attacks. Netanyahu alleges Iranian pre-election threats but expressly does not know whether this flight belongs to that plan. Tsipis and Yemelyanov advance credibility/political-incentive suspicions; the correspondent cannot establish the scenario. These positions do not prove staging, Iranian involvement or motive. IRINN's October 2 opening and separate social-media package call the incident fabricated or staged for Israeli political purposes. The opening cites an Israeli official's reported lack of an apparent Iran link and a Times of Israel campaign-ad characterization. The package airs Jackson Hinkle's false-flag allegation, Anthony Murphy's reported incredulity, Jeckov Kanani's production accusation, anonymous objections to flight details and a Rabbi Jeff parody. These are suspicions, attributed claims and satire, not verified investigative findings or evidence establishing Iranian involvement. They extend the earlier IRINN staging account while the other broadcasters' reported emergency and unresolved inquiry remain intact.
