Vremya's military claims Advances and drone strikes
October 4 Northern Bridge strike
Oct 4
Vremya reports Russian claims of taking Samoilovka and a bridgehead toward Ternovka, continued encirclement and assaults in central, southern and northern Dobropillia and operations at the Dobropilske mine. It describes a Kharkiv-region pocket and clearing around Rublennoye. Footage is described as a Roy interceptor downing a Maya drone, attacks on telecom data facilities allegedly serving the military, a Varyag strike on Kyiv's Northern Bridge allegedly blocking the supply crossing, a fuel-store hit at Illichivsk and a substation hit near Kharkiv. Control, military use, destruction and bridge effects remain Russian-source claims, without independent verification.
DD India reports a fresh Russian strike damaging Kyiv's Northern Bridge on Sunday October 4 shortly after Merz's arrival, with emergency response and recent Dnipro-crossing attacks as context. Tagesschau reports a Russian drone hitting a major bridge during the visit, repeated alerts and Merz's complete condemnation and call for talks. Tagesschau does not itself name the bridge or give a casualty count. The Academy of Sciences location does not establish a new October 4 attack on that building. This day's strike is distinct from the inspected October 3 Northern Bridge attack. CCTV's October 5 brief says an explosion occurred during the October 4 visit and attributes to Russia's Defence Ministry the claim that Russian drones hit Kyiv's North Bridge. It also attributes a threat to intensify strikes on military targets in Kyiv and elsewhere to retaliation for Zelenskyy's refinery-strike statement. The target description and rationale are Russian claims, retained alongside the earlier Ukrainian-site reporting and Merz's condemnation; they do not independently establish the ministry's stated motive. Vremya's October 5 roundup shows newly released Varyag footage and describes the Northern Bridge as vital for Ukrainian military supply and effectively blocked. Its damage image matches the October 4 road-deck damage shown in DD India's named-bridge account. Military use and blockage remain Russian-source assertions, not an independently established closure or a new October 5 strike. The separately observed October 3 reopening belongs to the earlier attack.
