PP welcomes election call Feijóo on sick-leave bonus
Feijóo proposes sick-leave incentives
Oct 5
RTVE's PP headline and complete report describe the opposition welcoming the election call after years of requesting it. From Génova, Jara Laliena says the party prepared part of Feijóo's speech and a 'Por fin' banner in advance, and plans a Ceuta visit and party-leadership meeting; these remain plans. The packaged account quotes Feijóo calling the announcement Sánchez's only good news and presenting a choice between corruption and decency, decline and prosperity. RTVE plays Ayuso discouraging postal voting and expressing doubts; it says Feijóo declines to comment and plays his refusal to add further statements as he leaves a business meeting. The report then quotes his criticism of absenteeism and Monday/Friday sick leave at that meeting and says he promises company incentives for fewer medical absences if he governs. The allegations are attributed; the report establishes neither electoral manipulation nor an implemented incentive.
During his October 5 IEF dialogue in Madrid, Feijóo calls Spain's absenteeism rate unreasonable, cites growth in daily absences and costs from 2018 to 2025, questions Monday/Friday sick leave and contrasts self-employed workers. He explicitly says he has not verified ABC's higher €36 billion estimate. He proposes more INSS medical assessors, coordination with mutual insurers and common access to medical information. A company bonus model is still being developed: below an unspecified sick-leave threshold, good care, staff motivation and working conditions might justify reduced obligations. RTVE's same-day PP report repeats the Monday/Friday claim and summarizes the intended incentives if he governs. No specified threshold, enacted bonus or finding of fraudulent illness is established.
