Macron on allied renewal Ukraine and Hormuz support
E5 backs Iran talks and Hormuz mission
Jun 24
In his complete Berlin statement, Emmanuel Macron says European–American rapprochement began at the Évian G7 and continued at the European Council, with Ankara and a July 13 Coalition of the Willing meeting to follow. He says all G7 members signed a common text for the first time in eighteen months, including U.S. support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and infrastructure and sanctions on Russia; he recalls decisions concerning oil, gas and sanctions and calls for further consolidation. He welcomes the U.S.–Iran accord and wants participation in an ad hoc Hormuz mission, while saying its conditions still need definition. He also advocates a peaceful settlement and lasting peace and full sovereignty for Lebanon. He supports increased European capabilities, budgets, deterrence and industrial partnership within NATO. He closes with a tribute to Starmer's courage, dignity, decency and decisions strengthening Britain's European and NATO role. The diplomatic progress and policy judgments remain attributed; no mission deployment is announced.
At the June 24 Berlin press statements, Merz welcomes the U.S.–Iran framework and supports follow-up negotiations in Bürgenstock, promising a German contribution when prerequisites are met. Macron supports the accord and participation in an ad hoc Hormuz mission while saying conditions still need definition; he also voices support for lasting peace and full Lebanese sovereignty. Meloni welcomes the signing but stresses uncertainty and the strategic importance of secure shipping, saying Italy's willingness to help remains conditional. These are European diplomatic and mission-support statements. They establish neither a new U.S.–Iran signing that day, a deployed Hormuz mission nor resolved participation conditions.
