UN week and Lavrov’s talks Vremya’s full UN roundup
Araghchi–Lavrov UN talks
Sep 24
Vremya’s Mikhail Akinchenko reviews UN high-level week, citing Lula’s warning about trust, Lavrov’s address, Trump and Pezeshkian on Iran and the Iranian delegation’s contacts with U.S. envoys. It covers Lavrov’s meetings with Rubio, Guterres, Grossi and Wadephul, Putin’s G20 invitation and circulation of a Russian report disputing the Bucha killings. It recalls Trump–Zelenskyy exchanges, an energy-truce proposal, Lavrov’s rejection of a pause in military operations and his comments on U.S. sanctions. The Bucha allegations, hostile characterizations, motives and diplomatic judgments remain the programme’s and speakers’ accounts; contacts and proposals are distinguished from an achieved compromise, and the independently identified appearances and meetings remain separate occurrences.
IRINN reports that Abbas Araghchi met Russia's foreign minister in New York, thanked Russia for opposing U.S. unilateralism and discussed West Asian developments and alleged U.S. breaches of the Islamabad understanding. Araghchi briefed him on Iran–Oman talks and mediators' efforts. The Russian minister condemned U.S. and Israeli military action against Iran and called for adherence to international law and the UN Charter. No agreement is announced. Vremya's September 25 account shows Sergey Lavrov meeting Abbas Araghchi and attributes to Iran's Foreign Ministry a detailed briefing on talks with the Americans. It says indirect U.S.–Iran contacts have continued in New York during the week. The brief gives no new agreement, accepted conditions or negotiation timetable. Its excerpt of Lavrov commenting on the crowded early UN days is incidental to the meeting, not a policy commitment. The September 27 weekly report attributes to Araghchi at the closed Lavrov meeting the claim that Washington rejected Tehran's seven-day plan for restoring Hormuz shipping. The source does not play that private exchange or establish the rejection's exact date.
