Kant urges legal equality Access and future law
Kant calls for cross-border technology law
Jun 24
Chief Justice Surya Kant discusses the gap between formal sovereign equality and access to international justice. He draws on India's experience and legal traditions, urges inclusion rather than dominance in shaping international rules, and argues that smaller and developing states need the institutions and expertise to exercise equal rights. In the later complete return on the future of law, he calls for genuinely diverse treaty consultations, cooperation on border-crossing AI and cybersecurity risks, and a new framework that promotes cooperation. He stresses that additional treaties alone are insufficient without legal capacity and equitable participation in arbitration. These are principles and proposals, not an announced treaty or implemented programme.
Answering a question about future law and technology, Kant calls for diverse consultation in a multipolar world and argues that AI and cybersecurity risks cross national borders. He says national law alone cannot fully protect citizens and urges cooperation, agreements and a new framework that promotes cooperation rather than imposed interests. This is a legal-framework proposal, not a completed treaty.
