Trampolín partly cleared RTVE reports Morocco returns
Trampolín beach clearance operation
Oct 4
RTVE reports the partial clearance of Ceuta's Trampolín beach on October 4 by a National Police operation it describes as unprecedented in the city. Marc Sala says migrants have been transferred to the temporary foreigners' centre for registration and attributes an estimated 500 voluntary returns to Morocco to the autonomous city. Reporting from the scene, Beatriz Carrasco says her team saw dozens make that decision during the day and cites city sources reporting at least 500 returns by the afternoon. She says the operation was prepared to rehouse about 1,000 migrants, while more than half the beach and the neighboring Guano settlement still await clearance and dismantling. She explains that this section was prioritized because it is nearest the desalination plant and the water there is contaminated. The return total remains an attributed estimate; the planned rehousing capacity is not a completed-transfer count.
On October 4, 2026, a police-led operation partially cleared the migrant settlement on Ceuta's Trampolín beach and transferred people to reception resources. RTVE's earlier evening report says migrants were taken to a temporary foreigners' centre for registration. Beatriz Carrasco says her team saw dozens choose to return to Morocco and attributes an afternoon total of at least 500 voluntary returns to city sources. She reports provision to rehouse about 1,000 people, more than half the beach and the adjacent Guano settlement still awaiting clearance, and prioritization of the area near the desalination plant because the water was contaminated. In his later statement, recorded just after 21:30, Ángel Víctor Torres says the day-long operation has ended, a large part of the beach has been cleared and 1,100 migrants have been transferred to official facilities. He describes no significant security incidents and pledges continued provision of spaces so nobody sleeps on Ceuta's streets. The 1,100 transfer figure and the earlier return estimate concern different movements; completion of that day's operation does not establish clearance of the entire beach.
