October 2 Spanish storm floods

Oct 2–3

RTVE reports October 2 torrential rain and flooding on Spain's Mediterranean coast. From Los Alcázares, José Alfonso Pérez describes over 100 litres per square metre, the earlier red alert and an orange warning lasting until midnight, concern over the rambla de las Colonias, an ES-Alert message and around 300 emergency calls largely for minor flooding or trapped vehicles. He says no major incident has yet been reported there. The national package shows rescues and damaged homes, roads and fields in Montsià and Baix Ebre, confinement until early afternoon and overflow at Les Cases d'Alcanar. It describes roughly 400,000 Valencian pupils without Friday classes and cleanup in Peñíscola. Mónica López adds 184 litres per square metre at Alzira and 239 at Alcanar, explains warm seawater as fuel for storms and warns of continuing rain. Her full forecast covers the weekend's regional timing, possible escalation of orange alerts and a western DANA expected to persist into the next week. Those forecasts and possible future impacts remain prospective.

On October 2, torrential rain floods communities along Spain's Mediterranean coast. RTVE reports emergency warnings and trapped vehicles at Los Alcázares, rescues and material damage in Montsià and Baix Ebre, temporary confinement, Valencian school closures affecting about 400,000 pupils and cleanup at Peñíscola. The Los Alcázares reporter says no major incident has yet been reported locally despite around 300 calls. Meteorologist Mónica López gives 184 litres per square metre at Alzira and 239 at Alcanar and explains continuing storms fuelled by warm seawater and cold air. Her weekend warnings and prediction of a western DANA next week remain forecasts, not already observed consequences. France 2's October 3 follow-up reports the same October 2 storm episode's inland Madrigueras flooding, vehicles swept together and church damage after rain began the previous afternoon. Residents and municipal workers clean up on October 3; Almazora firefighters pump homes overnight and Tarragona crews travel by boat. The forecast continuation to October 4 is prospective and no casualty total is supplied.
