Spain's streets flood Residents begin cleanup
October 2 Spanish storm floods
Oct 2–3
After an anchor warning of rain and floods forecast for Pyrénées-Orientales, Anne Ponsinet reports destructive Spanish downpours. Madrigueras streets became rivers after rain began the previous afternoon; vehicles floated or were swept together, and water broke through the church door and carried away furniture. Residents describe unprecedented water and displaced cars as municipal workers clear damaged vehicles the following morning. In Almazora, firefighters pump homes and assist vulnerable residents overnight; Tarragona firefighters use boats. The report says the persistent rain was forecast and may continue until the following day. It supplies no casualty total, rainfall measurement or completed French flood outcome.
On October 2, torrential rain floods communities along Spain's Mediterranean coast. RTVE reports emergency warnings and trapped vehicles at Los Alcázares, rescues and material damage in Montsià and Baix Ebre, temporary confinement, Valencian school closures affecting about 400,000 pupils and cleanup at Peñíscola. The Los Alcázares reporter says no major incident has yet been reported locally despite around 300 calls. Meteorologist Mónica López gives 184 litres per square metre at Alzira and 239 at Alcanar and explains continuing storms fuelled by warm seawater and cold air. Her weekend warnings and prediction of a western DANA next week remain forecasts, not already observed consequences. France 2's October 3 follow-up reports the same October 2 storm episode's inland Madrigueras flooding, vehicles swept together and church damage after rain began the previous afternoon. Residents and municipal workers clean up on October 3; Almazora firefighters pump homes overnight and Tarragona crews travel by boat. The forecast continuation to October 4 is prospective and no casualty total is supplied.
