Trump previews Ohio campaign stop

Oct 3

Before departing the White House for Ohio on October 3, Trump says he will campaign for a couple of candidates, identifies Senator Husted's race against Brown, criticizes Brown and praises Ohio while claiming a record of electoral success there. Answering a partly inaudible question, he describes his presidency's first two years as exceptionally productive and consequential. Asked about a decision on Iran, he says he will make one, calls Iran decimated and says it will be the easy way or the hard way, without specifying the action or its timing. In the next response he blames Democrats for inherited high costs, claims prices have fallen and oil is lower than under Biden, reiterates that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and claims Iran has virtually given up nuclear-weapon plans. His extended final answer calls for ending twice-yearly clock changes and retaining afternoon light. He alleges Tom Cotton is holding up Senate action, claims more than 80 percent House support, praises Mike Johnson and argues that the change is bipartisan, popular with farmers and sports participants, less costly and less confusing, and beneficial for crime. These are Trump's claims and preferences; the recording establishes neither a new Iran decision or concession nor Senate passage or measured economic and safety effects. Several questions are inaudible and their speakers unidentified.

On the White House South Lawn before departure on October 3, Trump says he is going to Ohio to campaign for a couple of candidates. He identifies Senator Husted's race against Brown, attacks Brown, predicts success and praises Ohio while making claims about his previous victories and vote total. This is his pre-departure campaign announcement and statement of support; the gaggle does not cover the completed Ohio rally or an election outcome.
