Two drones strike Kyiv's Southern Bridge

Oct 1

TSN says two Russian drones struck near supports of Kyiv's Pivdennyi Bridge around noon. During the first strike a metro train was crossing; passengers heard an explosion and smelled smoke, were taken off at Vydubychi, and nobody was hurt. A second strike followed minutes later; Green Line service was adjusted and restored by afternoon. The bulletin says the previous day's Kyiv alerts lasted about twenty hours, lists impacts in four districts and reports four killed and seven wounded. It then reports a Wednesday-evening drone strike on the grounds of the Institute for Nuclear Research. A fire was extinguished and nobody was hurt; the reactor and critical safety systems were undamaged, radiation remained at natural background levels, and experts were assessing other damage. TSN says the reactor had been shut down and its core unloaded in February 2022. The adjoining regional roundup briefly reports three wounded in Pavlohrad, rescuer Yevhen Konovalov killed by an FPV drone in Marhanets while preparing for duty, and one injured after an Odesa infrastructure attack. For Sumy it gives nine injured across the preceding afternoon's six glide bombs, another overnight bomb and a drone impact, with housing and infrastructure damage and power interruptions. It reports five injured across Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, damaged homes in Bilenke, a late-evening drone hitting a Kharkiv apartment-building roof, a couple injured by a drone near Kozacha Lopan, and a civilian injured in an Izium airstrike. These short local accounts do not establish one common coordinated occurrence or a reconciled national casualty total.

Oman TV reports two Russian drones targeting a major bridge connecting Kyiv's eastern and western banks and disrupting public transport. It follows with Serhii Beskrestnov's discussion of jet-powered drones and warheads designed to damage steel structures, alongside a reported 87 Russian drones intercepted. The bridge is identified contextually as the Southern Bridge; the report itself does not name it. TSN says two drones hit near the Pivdennyi/Southern Bridge supports around noon, minutes apart. A metro train was crossing during the first impact; passengers heard an explosion and smelled smoke and were taken off at Vydubychi. Nobody was hurt. Green Line service was adjusted and restored by afternoon. Vremya reports the same two-drone strike and traffic halt, attributes it to the 50th Varyag brigade and explicitly says the structure's condition is unknown. Its experts infer a cutting shaped-charge design and discuss a possible cable-severing collapse mechanism; that is not confirmation of design or collapse. Different military/civilian framing and transport timing remain source claims.
