About this event

EU publishes Brazil food-audit assessment

Sep 28

The trade package says Brazil reached China's 1.106-million-tonne annual beef quota that day and that an additional 55% charge raises the existing 12% tariff to 67% for further exports. It reviews January–August beef export volume and revenue growth and China's leading market share. Antonio Trindade then reports negotiations to reopen EU markets after an early-September suspension of Brazilian animal-food imports over prohibited substances. He describes a late-September European assessment of poultry and honey production as satisfactory, but says a late-October technical meeting and further decisions are still needed before exports can resume. Brazil also seeks beef access, while the EU says its assessment may take up to two years. Neither a completed EU reopening nor an agreement is established.

TV Brasil reports a satisfactory EU assessment of Brazilian poultry and honey production following a suspension of animal-food imports. A technical meeting planned for late October may enable purchases to resume, but reopening is not confirmed. Brazil also hopes to discuss beef, whose assessment EU authorities say could take up to two years.
