Siegmund plans December bid Majority remains unresolved
Saxony-Anhalt AfD–BSW government-formation talks
Date unknown
Weltwoche says Ulrich Siegmund intends to stand for minister-president of Saxony-Anhalt in December after the AfD won 43.8 percent. The party holds 39 of 83 seats, short of a majority, and is exploring government formation with BSW. BSW rules out a coalition but might abstain in the premier election; how Siegmund would secure a stable majority remains unclear. Köppel urges the AfD to retain its convictions and argues that Siegmund has the strongest popular mandate, presenting other parties’ responses as a test of respect for voters. These are his assessments, with neither an investiture result nor a government agreement reported.
Weltwoche's September 24 brief says AfD and BSW are preparing government formation in Saxony-Anhalt and links their electoral strength to Ukraine and Russia policy. It gives no coalition text, timetable or investiture vote. AUF1's same-day report describes continuing talks on possible cooperation but quotes BSW parliamentary leader Thomas Schulze as still rejecting a coalition. He calls the talks constructive, favors a suitable nonpartisan premier also elected with AfD votes and objects to the AfD's exclusion from SPD-organized talks. AUF1 quotes an AfD spokesperson declining to say publicly whether or which talks are occurring. These accounts do not establish a coalition agreement. TSN's earlier event 678 concerns the narrower negotiations over parliamentary leadership posts. Weltwoche’s September 30 follow-up again describes exploratory government-formation discussions with BSW, while expressly saying BSW rules out a coalition and might abstain in Siegmund’s premier election. It gives the AfD 39 of 83 seats and says a stable majority remains unresolved. Köppel supports Siegmund’s voter mandate and urges the AfD to retain its convictions. This is a qualified later account of the same developing discussions; the new December candidacy timetable is recorded separately. ARD's October 4 report describes BSW–AfD policy talks and includes Siegmund claiming constructive discussions with another group and individual MPs. It also says all other parliamentary groups deny intending to vote for him and leaves his governing support uncertain. In the live interview, Sven Schulze claims AfD and BSW want to form a government and says the AfD would depend on the five BSW members and Wagenknecht, while ruling out direct CDU cooperation. His assessment does not erase BSW's previously reported refusal of a formal coalition or establish an agreement.
