Schmidt reports faster solar installation

Jun 5, 2024

Wolfgang Schmidt reports implementation of the federal-state planning, approval and implementation pact agreed on 6 November. He says its more than 100 measures are being translated into legislation, including an imminent final Bundestag vote on changes to the Federal Immission Control Act, and announces a joint review with state premiers on 20 June. He illustrates progress with photovoltaic installations equivalent to 35 football pitches daily, compared with 17 in 2022 and his stated need for 43 to meet the 2030 renewable-energy goal. In Carsten Träger's later questions, Schmidt describes changes to state building rules, regular monitoring by federal and state chancellery heads and cooperation with municipal implementing authorities. The votes and review remain prospective in this broadcast.

Schmidt tells the Bundestag that Germany is installing photovoltaic panels equivalent to 35 football pitches daily, compared with 17 in 2022 and his stated requirement of 43 daily to meet the 2030 renewable-energy goal. He presents this as tangible progress from accelerated implementation and a preview of the forthcoming federal-state review. The figures and assessment are his stated comparison, not measured achievement of the 2030 target.
