Pentagon watchdog discloses Iran-war losses

Sep 14

CCTV reports that an October 5 Congressional Research Service report counts 81 U.S. military aircraft damaged or destroyed since February 28. It names several aircraft types, describes the report's press and official sources, and says Congress is considering replacement funding and assessing equipment, tactics and basing. The account also recalls a September 14 Pentagon-watchdog report of hundreds of damaged buildings and more than fifty aircraft affected through June 30, and a Congressional Budget Office estimate of about $38 billion spent through August 1. These differently scoped figures remain attributed; damaged aircraft are not all destroyed and the accounts are not added together.

CCTV retrospectively reports a September 14 Defense Department-watchdog disclosure of at least several hundred damaged buildings and facilities and more than fifty U.S. aircraft damaged or destroyed in the Iran war. The reported period is February 28–June 30. It describes this as the Pentagon's first official equipment/facility-loss account. These are the broadcast's attributed, differently scoped figures, not confirmed shootdowns or totals to combine with October's CRS tally.
