About this event

Cantabrian cold front causes flooding

Oct 7

RTVE's complete weather unit first reports three deaths after Catalonia's recent storms, discovery of a man's body that day and continuing searches for two people, without identifying them. It then reports current heavy rain and orange alerts in Asturias and Cantabria. Sergio Pascual describes Asturias alerts and predicted 80 millimetres in twelve hours; Óscar Ortiz reports over seventy Cantabrian incidents, flooded homes and businesses, heavy Santander rain, over sixty millimetres at San Roque de Riomiera and an A8 truck-accident closure. Mónica López identifies a cold front, reports 69 millimetres at Gijón and gives the full subsequent forecast, including further Catalan rain and a temperature fall before recovery. Forecast impacts remain prospective; the earlier Catalonia deaths are not attributed to the new Cantabrian front.

On October 7, heavy cold-front rain affects Asturias and Cantabria, with RTVE reporting orange alerts, flooded Santander streets and homes and more than seventy Cantabrian emergency incidents. Its correspondents cite over sixty millimetres at San Roque de Riomiera, while the meteorologist reports 69 millimetres at Gijón and explains the front's continuing movement and expected temperature fall. Further rain and later temperature changes are forecasts, not completed impacts.
