Brazil updates slave-labour employer registry
Oct 6
The updated federal registry of employers found using labour analogous to slavery includes 82 new names: 54 individuals and 28 companies. TV Brasil reports 553 workers rescued in inspections from 2024 to 2026, across 21 states, with Minas Gerais accounting for 19 listed employers and additions 51% below April's update. Luciano Aragão and Marina Ferro explain continuing exploitative conditions, vulnerability, accountability and reporting routes. The report gives approximately 70,000 historic rescues and R$171 million in compensation. These different periods are not added together, and the update is not a new October 7 rescue operation.
