New military-service model Pistorius promises proposal
Pistorius pledges mandatory service elements

Kerstin Vieregge challenges delayed military-service proposals and reported retreat within the SPD leadership. Pistorius denies backtracking and says he expects to present parameters to the Defence Committee next Wednesday, subject to inherited capacity and aimed primarily at force expansion and endurance rather than closing the 181,000-to-203,000 personnel gap. Asked by Serap Güler, he insists mandatory elements will be necessary and says the proposal will be debated by government, coalition, Parliament and the public. To Röwekamp he says duties are compatible with his view of humanity, qualified by political and capacity choices. Vieregge and Hoppenstedt ask Schmidt about apparent disagreement with Scholz's staffing assessment; he asserts a shared government assessment but declines to interpret the Chancellor's statement, explaining the difference between Chancellor and Chancellery head. No completed model, enacted conscription or resolved staffing dispute is established.
Pistorius says a new military-service proposal cannot be entirely free of obligations and that he expects to present parameters to the Defence Committee the following Wednesday. He denies backtracking, emphasizes existing capacity limits and expansion and endurance rather than primarily closing the regular-force staffing gap, and promises subsequent government and parliamentary debate. He calls gendered constitutional provisions outdated, envisages voluntary opening to women and eventual constitutional discussion. Schmidt asserts a shared government assessment while declining to interpret the Chancellor's staffing remarks. No completed model or enacted law is announced.
