Cornell case documents DA plans transcript subpoena
Cornell students hold sexual violence hearing
Oct 1
ABC's Aaron Katersky reports newly obtained confidential Cornell investigation documents describing Jane Doe's account of the alleged fraternity assault. He quotes her description of feeling surrounded like bait, reports investigators finding a ketamine overdose at the house the night before, and relays her allegation that she was pressured to take ketamine and could not function normally. An ongoing public campus hearing airs student anger, including Student Assembly president Eeshaan Chaudhuri, and another student's account of an earlier assault. District Attorney Matthew Van Houten tells ABC he will subpoena Cornell transcripts as part of the reopened case, help Doe present any additional evidence to a grand jury, and incorporate an internal report with dozens of interviews that he says he had never seen. Allegations remain attributed; subpoenas, testimony and a grand-jury outcome are not reported completed.
At a Cornell Student Assembly public hearing on sexual violence in Ithaca, students voiced anger and demanded more effective university action following disputed allegations of a 2024 fraternity gang rape. ABC's October 1 account includes assembly president Eeshaan Chaudhuri's condemnation and a student's account of another assault. TV Brasil's later roundup describes the hearing and the renewed civil and criminal scrutiny. These accounts do not adjudicate the allegations.
